Since our inception, pt Health has experienced the kind of exciting changes and challenges that go hand in hand with growth and success. Through it all we remain dedicated to offering our patients the most holistic and innovative care possible. Healthcare is our passion and offering solutions to get well and stay well is our mission. We'd like to share the story of our company and our unique brand of care with you.
In the Beginning
In 1995, our President and COO Mark Cho opened his first physiotherapy clinic in Bowmanville, Ontario. Mark’s approach to treatment was holistic. Since he believed in treating the whole person, he became frustrated with the limits that the standard approach to physiotherapy imposed. He wanted to be able to offer complementary therapies that would provide additional supports for his patients. This desire to create a more holistic approach to healthcare led to the formation of the company pt Health is today.
Significant Growth
Shortly thereafter, Karen Fisher recognized an important but unmet physiotherapy need for seniors living in Ontario. She decided to introduce pt Health to the older adult community by providing physiotherapy services in Long Term Care and Retirement Homes. Within two years an additional 20 clinics were added.
From pt Health’s origins in Ontario, we began an exciting expansion westward in 2003 and 2004. Clinics were established first in Calgary, Alberta and then in Surrey, British Columbia. As the company grew, the need for committed and experienced leadership grew as well. In 2007, Varoujan Basmadijian of CMV Financial became pt Health’s Chief Executive Officer. A new era began.
With this new leadership at the helm, pt Health continued to expand. In 2008, we became a unified national physiotherapy company with over 60 inter-professional clinics. In the same year, Columbia Life Rehabilitation joined pt Health bringing with it 30 new Long Term Care Homes and Retirement Homes. From there, pt Health expanded eastward when Dan Purcell of Integrated Health joined the roster of pt Health partners. As this growth continued, Paul Moon headed up the newly created pt Health Business Division.
Currently, pt Health includes over 100 outpatient clinics nationwide with over 200 nursing home contracts and over 1700 employees. This makes us one of Canada’s fastest growing and largest health care service companies.
A New Approach to Healthcare
As the need for accessible, holistic care increased, pt Health became a leader in the field. We created a multi-professional health care delivery model and clinic cooperative. This brought about the evolution of a new approach to patient care and helped to revolutionize the field of healthcare in Canada. What started in 1995 as a concept in Mark’s physiotherapy clinic is now a reality.
pt Health’s large network of healthcare professionals pave the way for the sharing of resources. This network fosters a free-flowing exchange of information on the latest techniques and advancements in the field of healthcare. This broad knowledge base means patients receive exceptional care based on leading edge therapeutic techniques.
Perhaps even more importantly, this network approach allows physiotherapists and healthcare professionals from other fields to collaborate. Chiropractic care, naturopathic care, massage therapy and acupuncture work together hand in hand under the same roof. This innovative approach remain our focus and has become our signature: a multi-disciplinary model that delivers the best possible care to our patients.
