Our highly trained therapist’s goal is to help you regain functionality after an amputation. Through personalized therapy programs, clients learn to strengthen the muscles surrounding the amputated area to offer better support.

With treatment, you will also learn more efficient use of your prosthetic device and improve overall balance and mobility. We will assist you in restoring normal function of the amputated area.

What Is Amputee Rehab?

redgap

There is a lot of physical and emotional trauma associated with the loss of a limb. People who undergo amputation need focused care, support, encouragement and motivation.

Amputation Rehabilitation focuses treatment around the amputation area, seeking to improve flexibility in joints and muscle. Rehabilitation also helps individuals become more comfortable in using their new prosthetic.

Amputee physiotherapy and rehabilitation is typically managed by a team of health professionals such as physiotherapists, massage therapists, occupational therapists, and – in some cases – psychologists. pt Health therapists are highly trained and are dedicated to delivering the kind of focused, caring attention you deserve.

Research

A one-year survey of 692 patients having a lower limb amputation in Scotland between October 1, 1992, and September 30, 1993, was undertaken using data collected routinely by the Scottish Physiotherapy Amputee Research Group. The aims of the study were to identify the use of stump compression therapy and early walking aids and to examine their influence upon the time taken to reach function.

Analysis showed that Compression therapy and early walking aids and starting these treatments within ten days of amputation may reduce the time to prosthetic casting.
