Virtual Physiotherapy Spotlight: Natasha Trudel

Kirsten RoesinkPhysiotherapy, Spotlight, Virtual Care

Are you looking to continue your rehabilitative treatment while practicing social distancing and self-isolating?

Good news! pt Health now offers virtual physiotherapy, giving you the opportunity to receive treatment from the comfort of your own home through video conference technology.

Wondering how virtual physiotherapy works? In this Spotlight, we’ll share some first hand information from one of our physiotherapists with you.

Natasha Trudel, Physiotherapist and Clinic Team Manager at Cole Harbour Integrated Health Services – pt Health, has been offering virtual physiotherapy for the past few weeks.

Today, we’re talking to Natasha about her experience with this new service so far.

Q: Tell us about the type of treatments you can provide through virtual physiotherapy.

A: I am providing musculoskeletal assessments and treatments via virtual care. These include exercise prescription, education and product recommendations when needed.

Q: What has the patient experience been like with virtual care?

A: Before our clinic closure, I had assessed a client who was recently involved in a MVA. We had a few in person sessions, but then the closure happened. She was suffering with pain in multiple areas.

We used our first virtual session to go over more self-care exercises. I then arranged for a TENS machine to be delivered to her for home use, as we had safely trialed this in the clinic before. She was so thankful, she was nearly in tears.

Q: Can you share your favourite story of how you helped a patient with virtual physiotherapy?

A: Before the clinic closed, I was treating a competitive dancer who had suffered a significant ankle sprain. She was eager to return to her dancing.

We set her up with a virtual care appointment. During that initial session, I was able to go through special testing, as well as get her to trial dancing using her mobile device. We worked through jazz, ballet and tap!

I am happy to report that I followed up with her again virtually this week and she is cleared to resume practicing her competitive dances, at home while practicing social distancing.
