Physiotherapist - BScKin, MScPTSpeaks: English, ChineseHenry Tian graduated from Dalhousie University with a BSc. (Kinesiology) in 2015 and MSc. (Physiotherapy) in 2017. He has been living in Halifax since his family immigrated from China in 2007. Henry is a registered physiotherapist in Nova Scotia and a member of the Orthopaedic Division of Canadian Physiotherapy Association. Henry has taken several continuing education courses since graduating from school. He is certified in Biomedical Dry Needling and he has completed Level 1 and 2 of the Orthopaedic Division manual therapy courses. Henry uses a versatile treatment approach that focuses on manual therapy and exercise prescription, with the support of education, modalities, and adjunct tools such as taping and cupping. Henry is devoted to quality care for his clients through life-long learning. He will be taking the Acupuncture Canada courses in January 2020. When he is not at work, Henry enjoys spending time with his wife and one year-old son, as well as creating artwork with oil paint.
Chiropractor - DCSpeaks: EnglishDr. Brittany Fraser is a licensed Doctor of Chiropractic and certified acupuncture provider. She graduated from Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in 2017. Her treatments have an evidence-based approach which employ techniques such as manipulation, mobilization, soft tissue therapy, acupuncture, and rehabilitation exercises. Through these treatments, she intends to help her patients return to their optimal function and well-being. Dr. Fraser grew up in Bedford, Nova Scotia and was involved in the community mainly through sports. She is certified in Functional Integrated Acupuncture and Mental Health First Aid. She is a member of the Canadian Chiropractic Association and the Nova Scotia College of Chiropractors.
Massage TherapistSpeaks: EnglishSteve McCall has more than 27 years of clinical experience in Medical Massage Therapy. Originally self studied and mentored Steve challenged and passed the American Nation Certification Exam in 1993 along with a certification in the St. John Method of Neuromuscular Therapy. He has studied many forms of bodywork from Myofascial Release, Cranio-Sacral and visceral manipulation with a specific interest in rehabilitation and pain relief. Steve served as President of the East Coast Massage Therapy Association from 1994 - 2000 and is now an active member of the Massage Therapist's Association Of Nova Scotia.
Massage Therapist - Registered Massage TherapistSpeaks: EnglishEmily Mathisen Registered Massage Therapist Emily is a graduate from the Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy and a member of Massage Therapy Association of Nova Scotia (MTANS). Emily is from St. Paul, Minnesota, and moved to Nova Scotia with her Canadian husband in 2014, and more recently, she became a permanent resident of Canada. Upon moving to Nova Scotia, Emily quickly began to utilize her background in healthcare by working at ptHealth Cowie Hill as a patient coordinator. While working as a patient coordinator, Emily was able to see how well a multidisciplinary approach to health can help further a patient’s healing, which spurred her decision to become a Massage Therapist. While in school, Emily was able to partake in a variety of sporting events and clinics specializing in Neurological disorders, mental health, and spa. She specializes in Swedish massage and a therapeutic approach, combined with deep tissue, myofascial, trigger point therapy, and cupping. Emily is a dedicated practitioner who helps inspire her patient’s self-care through education of their own body, and providing remedial exercises for homecare. She believes in getting to the root cause of a patient’s condition, and working with other clinicians to create the best treatment plan for her patients.
Physiotherapy Support Personnel - BKINSpeaks: English, FrenchKatie Furlong graduated from the University of Regina with a Bachelor of Kinesiology (Bkin) in 2017. While in her final semester of school, she made the move to Nova Scotia to complete a four-month field placement with PtHealth and hasn’t left since. Over the course of her degree, Katie developed a strong passion for health and wellness through a wide variety of courses she took and the volunteering she did within the community. She specifically enjoyed her time volunteering with youth of varying abilities and took an active role in providing them with opportunities for sport and leisure. With her own personal rehabilitation journey, Katie developped a vast appreciation and passion for Kinesiology. Originally from Whitehorse, Yukon, Katie grew up in a place that valued a more alternative, multidimensional and holistic approach to healthcare. She hopes to one day pursue further education in a field that allows her to combine her passions for rehabilitation and alternative health methods to create positive, meaningful changes in the well-being and health of others. In her spare time, you will find Katie exploring the beautiful province she now calls home with her Saskatchewanian boyfriend and her spirited border collie, Sammy.
Occupational TherapistSpeaks: EnglishRebecca graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Dalhousie University in 2007. She took a few years off to work before returning to school to complete her Master of Science in Occupational Therapy in 2012. After graduation, Rebecca moved to rural Newfoundland to work for a few months before joining the pt Health team in October 2012. Rebecca is excited to be back home completing Job Site Analysis, Job Site visits, Ergonomic Assessments, functional testing, return to work planning, and wheelchair assessments for pt Health. Although she enjoys all aspects of her job, Rebecca's main area of interest is seniors' health and wellness.
PhysiotherapistSpeaks: EnglishMichael’s physiotherapy career started in 2014 as a kinesiologist for ptHealth at the Cole Harbour Integrated Health and Forest Hills locations. Spending 3 years with the company, Michael grew to love the healthcare field and chose to further his education by becoming a physiotherapist. He graduated from Dalhousie University in 2019 with a MSc. in Physiotherapy and is looking forward to working as a ptHealth team member again. Michael believes in using a client-centered approach, incorporating individualized exercise and education to help patients manage pain and recover while preventing future injuries. He hopes to pursue post-graduate courses in acupuncture and manual therapy to help improve the care he can provide to his clients. Outside of physiotherapy, Michael is an avid sports fan and athlete. He played competitive soccer and competed at a national level in sprint canoe/kayak. He continues to play soccer and when he is not being active, he enjoys spending time at home with his wife and their dog J-ze.
Patient CoordinatorSpeaks: EnglishCheryl graduated from ARVS (Annapolis Regional Vocational School) in 1980 with a diploma in Business Education/Secretarial. Originally from Ottawa Ontario, She has lived and worked in the Halifax area since 1993. She is currently Patient Coordinator at Fall River Physio in Fall River, NS. Cheryl has a passionate interest in mission work and has participated in mission trips in Africa, Haiti, and Costa Rica. Cheryl has been married to Esau for 36 years and is a mother of five and grandmother of eight. She enjoys travelling, baking, doing crafts, and hanging out with her grandchildren whenever possible.
Occupational Therapist - BScKin, MScOT, OT Reg (NS)Speaks: EnglishChelsey is an energetic and passionate Occupational Therapist who strives to facilitate a comprehensive and creative approach to client centred healthcare. Using the latest in clinical knowledge, Chelsey aspires to provide the highest-quality care for her patients to improve their quality of life, regain and maintain independence with their activities, and encourage them to be active participants in their care. Chelsey’s clinical interests include hand therapy, return to work, ergonomics, chronic pain management, and adaptive equipment. Chelsey is keen about continued education and is always looking for opportunities to gain additional training and certifications. Chelsey holds a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy from Dalhousie University and a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from the University of New Brunswick. When Chelsey is not working you can find her playing volleyball and golf, baking, or spending time with family and friends.
