Kirsten RoesinkPhysiotherapy, Spotlight, Virtual Care

Are you looking to continue your rehabilitative treatment while practicing physical distancing and self-isolating?

Good news! pt Health now offers virtual physiotherapy, giving you the opportunity to receive treatment from the comfort of your own home through video conference technology.

Wondering how virtual physiotherapy works? In this Spotlight, we’ll share some first hand information from one of our physiotherapists with you.

Paul Love, Clinic Team Manager and Physiotherapist at Barrie Physiotherapy – pt Health and Midland Physiotherapy – pt Health has been offering virtual physiotherapy here for the past few weeks.

Today, we’re talking to Paul about his experience with this service so far.

Q: Tell us about the type of treatments you can provide through virtual physiotherapy.

A: I completed an initial assessment for someone who just had a knee replacement. I completed an initial assessment for a patient in a recent MVC.

I am also treating patients with  the following musco-skeletal conditions; low back pain, rotator cuff injuries, knee traumas, such as meniscus tears, neck pain with radiculopathies to the upper extremities.

A recent ACL repair of the knee. Repetitive strain injuries.

Follow ups with some of our OHIP patients who are paying out of pocket for continuing care during the clinic closure. All the funding streams have been represented.

Q: What has the patient experience been like with virtual care?

A: Patient experience has been very positive.

Everyone has found the VC sessions helpful and relevant to their present condition. They are finding that the exercises are enabling them to continue to progress, and that the advice for pain management  is helpful.

They are appreciative that we are continuing to care for them.

Q: Can you share your favourite story of how you helped a patient with virtual care?

A: With several of our patients, the Admin Lead is walking them through the log on process and reducing the anxiety, doubts and removing the barriers to their participation in Virtual Care.
